As you may have guessed, this film is rather sexually explicit, and other reviews I have read describe it as pornographic. Make no mistake, it is quite extreme in places, but I would not insult the director by calling it pornography. It's far too well done for one thing, and the acting is incredibly good. To be honest, I was quite disturbed after the first bondage scene because I couldn't tell if Ducey was acting, or if they had just left the camera rolling while she laid on the bed weeping.
The fuss in the media seems to have been caused by the fact that the guy Marie meets in the café is played by an Italian porn star. Big deal. At least he knows how to look like he's making love. And in a "fantasy" scene there are a few seconds of film in there that, well, could have been left out with no loss to the story.
The scene in the film which I found most disturbing is of live childbirth, in which we are treated to a full-screen view of a slimy blue head coming out of a big circular hole. Now that's disgusting.
I left the cinema wishing I could have understood more of the dialogue. My French is so rusty that I was relying on the Finnish subtitles, and well, I'm sure I missed plenty there. This film is certainly worth seeing, unless explicit sex scenes offend you, although I do think a few seconds of footage were put there just to annoy the censors.
