Volume Serial # Update

advanced.png

The Volume Serial # Update dialog can be displayed by choosing Volume Serial # Update from the Tools menu. Its purpose is to allow you to tell PMIO about changes to volume serial numbers. You will rarely need to use this facility. It may be of use if you have to reinstall your operating system or have formatted a disk volume (formatting changes the serial number).

The Volume Serial # Update Dialog

To use the dialog:

  1. Select the old serial number from the leftmost drop-down list. Since serial numbers are not easy to remember, the text box below the list will show you the list of known folders on the root of the volume so that you can more easily verify that you have chosen the correct volume.
  2. Select or type the new serial number in the rightmost drop-down list.
  3. Click the Update button. PMIO will swap the settings that were recorded for the two volumes. If you make a mistake, repeating your mistake will swap the settings back to normal.

Note: If the volume in question is not listed, PMIO doesn't know about the volume so you do not have to use this function.

Warning: You need to be extremely careful when using this facility. If you are at all unsure about whether you need to use it or not, it is best to not use it. Incorrect use of this feature can cause the loss of PMIO settings and memos.
