The Thumbnail Appearance Window (F9) allows you to control the appearance of thumbnails for the current location.
The Thumbnail Appearance Window
- Width and Height control the maximum dimensions of the thumbs. They set a maximum limit within which the thumbs will be centered. The small arrow buttons to the right of the width and height sliders set the values to the maximum allowed. These maximum values are the dimensions of the base thumbs from which all visible thumbs are derived. Attempting to set the dimensions of a thumb beyond this maximum will result in the following behaviour:
- The offending dimension will be highlighted in yellow.
- If Zoom tiny thumbnails is not checked, the thumbs will appear at the maximum (base) size with a lot of wasted space around them.
- If Zoom tiny thumbnails is checked, the thumbs will appear at the requested size but may look bad because they will have been zoomed from the smaller base thumbs.
- Spacing controls the amount of space between thumbnails on the thumbnail panel.
- Sharpness controls the sharpness of the thumbs.
- Zoom tiny thumbnails allows you to zoom very small thumbs so that they are easier to see. This affects the thumbs for images that are smaller than the thumb size specified above.
- Label thumbnails using this format lets you change the label that appears below each thumb within the thumbnails. For more information on setting the label, see Format Specifiers.
- Quality lets you change the method by which the base thumbs are resized to create the visible thumbs. For more information, see Resizing Options.
There are also several buttons on the window:
| Revert | Restores the settings from the last saved state. |
| Use Defaults | Loads the settings from the defaults. |
| Set As Defaults | Sets these settings as the defaults for all new folders. |
| Propagate | Applies the settings to the current location, sets them as the defaults, and then propagates them to all known locations. |
| Apply | Applies your changes without closing the window. If the Auto-apply option is checked, this button will be disabled and any changes you make will automatically be applied. |
| Close | Closes the window without applying your changes. |
| Help | Displays this help page. |
Note: This window does not control the base thumbs, it only controls the browser thumbs. Since the browser thumbs are also used by the Web Page Wizard, the Slideshow Wizard and the Export Thumbnails commands, this window also affects those functions.
