This page contains settings that only affect the current location, that is, the location that is currently being displayed in the browser that the preferences dialog was launched from.

Automatically update thumbnails causes PMIO to update the thumbnails:
When a change occurs at the current location
When a volume is inserted or removed from a drive
Dither thumbnails on 256 colour displays enables dithering for 256 Colour Displays.
Display non-image files as icons causes PMIO to display all files at this location rather than just image files. Non-image files are displayed as the icon of the file extension, as configured in Windows Explorer.
For some unknown reason, the icon is sometimes not drawn correctly on my system (Windows 2000).
Ignore files whose names begin with the following strings allows you to specify a way to prevent PMIO from accessing certain files. The default values prevent PMIO from displaying thumbnails for various temporary image files and thumbnail files created by itself. You should separate each string with a semicolon.
Keep the custom sort-order file in the same folder as the images causes PMIO to store the custom sort-order information in the image folder instead of in the PMIO data folder. This can be useful for backup purposes and for keeping track of the sort-order for various image collections.
