Pink Mouse's Image Organiser Help Contents
Introduction
Pink Mouse's Image Organiser creates high quality thumbnails from several popular image file formats, and allows you to copy, move, rename, delete and comment the images. It works in a similar fashion to Windows Explorer and it features a Wizard for generating web pages, shortcuts to favourite folders, multiple browser windows, image finders, filters, animation window, and image baskets for gathering images to work on while browsing.
If you have been using a previous version of PMIO, you will find it is once again much improved with many new features to make collecting and organising your pictures even easier. PMIO is now particularly well-suited to organising off-line picture collections, kept, for example, on CDs. You may also have a few questions about how the new version works, and you can check the FAQ to see if there is an answer, or submit the questions to the author by email. Users of earlier versions will find many enhancements. The thumbnail management system has again been completely rewritten. The basket has been integrated into the main browser, and you can now create as many baskets as you like. The Batch Engine, which automatically bulk-creates thumbnails, is now smaller and more powerful. Finally, PMIO is faster than before in certain areas. Please read the release notes for more details. The Web Page Wizard has again been enhanced according to the many requests I had from users of previous versions. It also has features that make it safer to use with CD-writing devices. This version has many new thumbnail-creation options, and supports JPEG, BMP, TGA, PNG, PCX, TIFF, EMF, PSD and AVI image formats. Please note that GIF is not supported due to licensing restrictions regarding the 'LZW compression' that it uses. Users of version 2.0 will find many new features. There is a slideshow facility which allows you to create and export slideshows so that you can send them (on CD for example) to your family and friends. This requires a stand-alone viewer program which is included in the package. There is a new Volume Manager window which allows you to assign meaningful labels to your removable disks without actually writing to the media. There is also a new Memo Manager which allows you to back-up and restore your image memos. Users of version 3.0 may have noticed the large number of thumbnail files that were created. From version 4, the number of thumbnail files has been greatly reduced.
Feature List
- Multiple Browser Windows with drag and drop support between any two.
- Fully customisable operation with user-friendly interface. Lots of options for advanced users. If you're a beginner you can simply ignore the options that you don't need.
- Supports JPG, BMP, TGA, PNG, PCX, TIFF, PSD, EMF and AVI image formats.
- Flexible image addressing system circumvents the limitations of the Windows file system to allow full support for off-line media. You can automatically catalogue all your removable disks and later browse them, search them and organise them without the need to mount them in a drive. Access images on read-only and removable volumes or across a network.
- The Power Filter tool can be used to filter images into baskets based on flexible user-defined rules. It can also search all catalogued volumes and find duplicate images.
- Browse Internet locations as you would any other location or folder. Note: This only works on servers that allow robot access. PMIO attempts to ease the load on servers by incorporating a short delay between accesses.
- Assign meaningful names to your removable disks by using the Volume Manager tool.
- Back-up and restore your image memos by using the Memo Manager tool.
- Choose between standard Explorer View and Catalogue View for navigation.
- Low Quality, High Quality, Super-high Quality and Filter methods for creating thumbnails. Choose your preferred speed and quality.
- Web Page Wizard for automatically generating web pages of thumbnails. Optionally creates separate web pages for each image with navigation buttons.
- Sort thumbnails in 17 different ways, including by file attributes, image attributes, randomly or your own customised order.
- Thumbnails are created in the background, allowing further use of the program without waiting.
- Thumbnails and image information are automatically saved in a central database for faster re-loading. Full-colour thumbnails with minimal memory and disk usage thanks to JPEG's amazing compression.
- The Batch Engine automatically scans, catalogues and creates thumbnails for your images. You can process all your hard drives overnight.
- Customisable shortcut list for fast access to your favourite image folders.
- Cut, copy, paste, drag and drop images to folder list or shortcuts, or use the Copy To and Move To options.
- Delete images to the recycle bin.
- Rename multiple images or use the Sequential Rename command to rename entire folders.
- Instant image information displayed in a tool tip when the mouse passes over a thumbnail.
- Animation Window for testing animation effects.
- Use Baskets to gather images that you want to work on into one 'virtual' folder. Create as many baskets as you need. Organise them with the Basket Manager tool.
- Create AVI movies from a thumbnail sequence or animation.
- Images can be logically rotated so that they are displayed at the correct orientation without affecting the actual image files. This is ideal for digital camera pictures that were taken in portrait mode (i.e. with the camera held vertically).
- Attach plain text and HTML memos to any file or folder. This information can be used by the Web Page Wizard.
- Handy Drive Info tool that gives useful information about your disk drives.
- Configurable Slideshow function with export option. Make slideshows for your friends and family.
- Simple but handy TWAIN support for acquiring images from scanners and cameras.
- View images using the application of your choice, or use the Internal Viewer.
- The Internal Viewer provides several handy image processing functions such as flip, blur, sharpen, brightness, contrast etc. and can also play movies using the Windows multimedia system.
- Image Finder for quickly locating images by name or part of a name.
- Find Similar Images command using experimental 'fuzzy logic' to find images that 'look like' each other.
- Thumbnails can be stored on any disk drive or shared on a server.
- Write-protect disk volumes; useful for those who use writable CD drives.
- PMIO employs sophisticated and customisable caching mechanisms for faster access and more efficient use of memory.
