Brightness is a term that describes how bright a colour is without giving any indication of its hue or saturation. In PMIO a brightness of 0% means 'black' and 100% means 'White':

PMIO measures the average brightness of every image it encounters while it is creating thumbnails. This information can be used to sort the thumbnails in the order of their overall brightness.
